Summer Math Bootcamp 2020

Due to concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19, Summer Math Bootcamp 2020 will be taking place online.

Summer is an excellent time to solidify what you’ve learned throughout the school year and study upcoming material in order to put yourself ahead of the curve. Research shows that 2.6 months of math skills learned over the school year are lost just over the span of summer. In fact, students who have experienced summer learning loss over the years are an average of 2 years behind their peers by the end of grade six alone!

How We Combat Summer Learning Loss

At Dalchen Tutoring, we offer a rigorous math program that fully familiarizes students with their upcoming school year’s mathematics within the span of 4 weeks. How is this possible? With ever-growing budget cuts in education, class sizes are constantly increasing in size and severely harming students’ chances to learn.  In large classroom settings, students are more likely to avoid asking questions about difficult concepts and simply lose interest in math. Therefore, the efficiency of the large classroom setting drops significantly. Our program combats this by utilizing a private 1 on 1 tutoring program designed to engage students with mathematical concepts and guide students through ALL the curriculum that they will be tested on in the upcoming school year in just 4 weeks.

Our Program

On average, each high school level math textbook has 10 testable chapters containing an average of 8 sections per chapter, totaling to 80 sections per textbook. Our tutors will be teaching the material at a rate of 2 sections per hour. Ultimately, this means that each textbook takes about 40 hours to completely teach all 80 sections. We understand this may sound fast, but through feedback analysis we’ve deduced that 2 sections per hour is the most effective and efficient rate to teach our students during our private 1 on 1 sessions. Be advised that if the student finds our curriculum to be too challenging, we offer professional help with homework after tutoring sessions through phone call or video chat, free of charge.

Tutoring sessions may take place at the comfort of your home or the Peninsula Center Library located at 701 Silver Spur Rd, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274.

Breaking Down the Program

Our program breaks down the 40 hours required to master the material into 10 hours per week (2 hours per day, Monday – Friday) for four weeks. Our curriculum is designed to tend to each student’s specific needs and will vary. An example is demonstrated below.

Week 1
Monday: Chapter 1, Sections 1-4
Tuesday: Chapter 1, Sections 5-end (Chapter 1 exam)
Wednesday: Chapter 2, Sections 1-4
Thursday: Chapter 2, Sections 5-end (Chapter 2 exam)
Friday: Chapter 3, Sections 1-4

Week 2
Monday: Chapter 3, Sections 5-end (Chapter 3 exam)
Tuesday: Chapter 4, Sections 1-4
Wednesday: Chapter 4, Sections 5-end (Chapter 4 exam)
Thursday: Chapter 5, Sections 1-4
Friday: Chapter 5, Sections 5-end (Midterm exam)

Week 3
Monday: Chapter 6 Sections 1-4
Tuesday: Chapter 6, Sections 5-end (Chapter 6 exam)
Wednesday: Chapter 7, Sections 1-4
Thursday: Chapter 7, Sections 5-end (Chapter 7 exam)
Friday: Chapter 8, Sections 1-4

Week 4
Monday: Chapter 8, Sections 5-end (Chapter 8 exam)
Tuesday: Chapter 9, Sections 1-4
Wednesday: Chapter 9, Sections 5-end (Chapter 9 exam)
Thursday: Chapter 10, Sections 1-4
Friday: Chapter 10, Sections 5-end (Final exam)

The schedule shown above is simply an example and may not apply for the student’s subject as textbooks may have up to 9 or 11 chapters and some chapters may have more or less than 8 sections. Regardless of the minor differences in lengths, we’ve predesigned academic schedules for both the regular and honors level courses for Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. Simply send us an email or give us a call and we’ll send you the schedule specifically designed for your subject!
